Bazaruto Archipelago

The Bazaruto Archipelago is Mozambique's crown jewel - a chain of six tropical islands off the southern coast that form one of the Indian Ocean's most pristine marine ecosystems. The archipelago is a national marine park protecting dugongs, sea turtles, dolphins, and some of the most spectacular coral reefs in East Africa.

The islands' white sand beaches, turquoise lagoons, and towering sand dunes create landscapes of extraordinary beauty. Bazaruto Island, the largest, has freshwater lakes, cashew forests, and sand dunes reaching 100 meters high - a surreal combination of desert and tropical paradise. Benguerra Island offers more intimate luxury lodge experiences.

The diving and snorkeling are world-class. The warm Mozambique Current brings visibility of 20-30 meters and supports an incredible diversity of marine life - from whale sharks and manta rays to colorful reef fish, nudibranchs, and the endangered dugong. Deep-sea fishing for marlin, sailfish, and tuna is another major draw.

May to October (dry season) offers the best conditions - calm seas, excellent visibility, and comfortable temperatures.

November to March is hot, humid, and brings cyclone risk. Some lodges close during the wet season.

June-August is peak season with the best diving conditions and whale sightings.
