Jambiani is a laid-back village on Zanzibar's southeast coast, known for its long stretch of white-sand beach, turquoise shallows, and a more authentic, less touristy atmosphere than the island's north coast. The dramatic tides here expose kilometers of coral flat, where local women farm seaweed in colorful displays.
This is Zanzibar at its most genuine - a working fishing village where dhows sail at dawn, coconut palm trees shade thatched-roof guesthouses, and the pace of life follows the rhythm of the tides. Kitesurfing, snorkeling, and cultural village walks are popular activities, while the sunset from the west-facing restaurants creates a golden hour every evening.
June to September and January to February are the dry seasons with sunny weather (25-30°C). The long rains (March-May) and short rains (November) bring downpours. Year-round warm waters make swimming possible anytime at high tide.
