Mysore (Mysuru), the former capital of the Wodeyar dynasty, is one of India's most elegant cities. The magnificent Mysore Palace, illuminated by 97,000 light bulbs on Sunday nights and during Dasara, is the second most-visited monument in India after the Taj Mahal. The city exudes a refined charm through its wide boulevards, heritage buildings, and traditional crafts.
Known for its Mysore silk, sandalwood, and Ashtanga yoga tradition, the city is also home to the vibrant Devaraja Market, the Chamundi Hill temple, and beautiful Brindavan Gardens. The 10-day Dasara festival, celebrated here since the 15th century with processions of caparisoned elephants, is Karnataka's grandest celebration.
October to March is ideal with pleasant weather. October during Dasara is the most spectacular time. Summers (April-May) are warm but manageable. Monsoon (June-September) brings moderate rain.
