Pushkar, one of the oldest cities in India, is centered around the sacred Pushkar Lake, believed to have been created when Lord Brahma dropped a lotus flower from the sky. The town is home to the world's only temple dedicated to Brahma and is one of the five sacred dhams (pilgrimage sites) for Hindus.
The annual Pushkar Camel Fair, one of the world's largest livestock fairs, transforms the desert town into a spectacular carnival of 50,000 camels, horses, and cattle alongside Rajasthani folk performances, competitions, and a vibrant atmosphere. The rest of the year, Pushkar maintains a peaceful, spiritual vibe with its 52 ghats, vegetarian restaurants, and growing popularity with yoga practitioners.
October to March is ideal with pleasant temperatures. November during the Camel Fair is the most exciting time to visit. Summers (April-June) are extremely hot. Monsoon (July-September) is brief.
