The Banda Islands are a tiny volcanic archipelago in the Banda Sea of Maluku province - the original Spice Islands that once produced the world's entire supply of nutmeg. These remote islands were so valuable that the Dutch traded Manhattan for them in 1667.
Today the Bandas are one of Indonesia's most remote and rewarding destinations. The crystal-clear waters offer world-class diving and snorkeling with pristine coral reefs, while on land, crumbling Dutch colonial forts, nutmeg plantations, and the dramatic volcanic cone of Gunung Api create a uniquely atmospheric setting.
September to November and March to May offer the calmest seas and best visibility for diving.
