Apollo Bay is a small fishing town on the Great Ocean Road, serving as the gateway to the Otway Ranges and Cape Otway Lightstation. The town sits on a crescent-shaped bay with a working harbour and excellent seafood.
The Great Otway National Park, accessed from Apollo Bay, offers rainforest walks, the Otway Fly Treetop Walk, waterfalls, and Cape Otway - mainland Australia's most southerly lighthouse. Glow worms can be seen in Melba Gully at night.
Visit Apollo Bay from November to March for warm weather and beach activities. The Saturday market runs year-round. Winter is quieter but great for rainforest walks and whale watching (June-September).
Australia's oldest surviving lighthouse (1848) with koalas in surrounding eucalyptus trees.
