Chamonix-Mont-Blanc, nestled in a dramatic valley beneath Western Europe's highest peak (4,808m), is the birthplace of mountaineering and one of the world's premier alpine destinations. The town has been drawing adventurers since the first ascent of Mont Blanc in 1786 and hosted the inaugural Winter Olympics in 1924.
Today, Chamonix offers world-class skiing, the spectacular Aiguille du Midi cable car rising to 3,842m, and the Mer de Glace glacier. In summer, it transforms into a hiking and trail-running paradise with the famous Tour du Mont Blanc route. The lively town center combines Alpine charm with cosmopolitan energy, filled with mountain guides, international climbers, and excellent restaurants.
