Delphi

Delphi was the most important religious site in the ancient Greek world - the "navel of the earth" (omphalos) where the Oracle of Apollo delivered prophecies that shaped the fates of empires. Perched dramatically on the slopes of Mount Parnassus above a valley of olive trees stretching to the Gulf of Corinth, the setting alone is unforgettable.

The Sacred Way winds past the treasuries of Greek city-states to the Temple of Apollo, the ancient theater (seating 5,000), and the stadium where the Pythian Games were held - predating the Olympics. The Delphi Archaeological Museum houses masterpieces including the bronze Charioteer, one of the finest surviving Greek bronzes.

April to June and September to October for comfortable temperatures (18-28°C). The mountain setting keeps Delphi cooler than Athens. Wildflowers bloom spectacularly in spring.
