Echuca is the paddle steamer capital of Australia, a historic river port on the Murray River that was once Australia's largest inland port. The restored Port of Echuca precinct features century-old red gum wharf timbers and the world's largest fleet of operating paddle steamers.
Cruises aboard restored paddle steamers like the PS Emmylou, PS Pevensey, and PS Alexander Arbuthnot offer a journey through Australia's river trade heritage. The surrounding region produces excellent wine, cheese, and stone fruit. Echuca-Moama straddles the Victoria-NSW border, with the river forming the boundary.
Visit Echuca in autumn (March-May) or spring (September-November) for mild weather and pleasant river conditions. Summer is very hot (35°C+). The Southern 80 water ski race in February is a major event.
