The Pinnacles are thousands of limestone pillars rising from the yellow desert sand of Nambung National Park, creating an otherworldly landscape 200 km north of Perth. Some pinnacles reach up to 5 metres tall, formed over millions of years from seashell deposits.
The Pinnacles Desert Drive is a loop road through the formations, with walking trails for closer exploration. The contrast between the ancient limestone spires, yellow sand, and blue sky is extraordinary, especially at sunrise and sunset when the warm light creates dramatic shadows. Nearby attractions include the Lancelin sand dunes and Cervantes lobster fishing.
Visit the Pinnacles from April to October for comfortable weather. Sunrise and sunset offer the most dramatic lighting. Spring wildflowers add colour to the surrounding bush. Summer is very hot.
