Delft is a perfect Dutch canal town - tree-lined waterways, Gothic churches, and a market square where Johannes Vermeer painted "View of Delft" in 1661. Best known for its iconic blue-and-white Delftware pottery, the city has been producing these hand-painted ceramics since the 17th century.
Smaller and more intimate than Amsterdam, Delft offers genuine Dutch charm without the crowds. The Oude Kerk (leaning more than the Tower of Pisa) houses Vermeer's tomb, while the Nieuwe Kerk on the main square holds the Royal Crypt of the House of Orange. The city is also home to TU Delft, one of Europe's top technical universities.
April to September is ideal (14-22°C). April brings tulips and King's Day. Summer is perfect for canal walks. The Delft Blue Days festival is held in early summer.
