Réunion

Réunion is a French overseas department in the Indian Ocean - a volcanic island of extraordinary natural drama where one of the world's most active volcanoes, lush tropical cirques, and dramatic coastline create an adventure playground unlike anywhere else. Despite being French territory with European standards and infrastructure, Réunion feels wild, untamed, and genuinely spectacular.

The Piton de la Fournaise, one of the world's most active volcanoes, erupts regularly, and hiking across its moonlike lava fields is a surreal experience. The three cirques - Cilaos, Mafate, and Salazie - are massive natural amphitheaters carved by erosion, with sheer cliffs, waterfalls, and isolated villages accessible only on foot. The multi-day trek through all three cirques is one of the world's great hikes.

Réunion's Creole culture blends French, African, Indian, Chinese, and Malagasy influences into something entirely unique - visible in its cuisine, music (maloya and séga), architecture, and warm, multilingual population. The island offers European comfort with tropical adventure: canyoning, paragliding, surfing, diving, and helicopter tours over volcanic landscapes.

The dry season (May to October) is ideal for hiking and outdoor activities, with cooler temperatures and minimal rainfall. June-August is the coolest period.

The wet season (November to April) brings heat, humidity, and tropical cyclone risk. Rain can be intense, especially on the east coast.

The west coast is drier year-round and suitable for beach activities in any season.
